Hennigan, Day split TOMS double- header at Hunt County, Rocket Raceway Park

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was in action for a double-header this past weekend at Hunt County Raceway and Rocket Raceway Park.

The series opened the weekend on Friday with the annual Charlie Brown Classic.

With 35 drivers in attendance, the fans were treated to a great night of racing as Chris Hennigan (Marshall, Texas) won the feature race.

Hennigan led all 30 laps of the feature race, but was challenged for the majority of the race by Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) and Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas).

An early caution two laps into the feature set up for some thrilling door-to-door racing for the next 23 laps as Hennigan began working his way through lap traffic.

The yellow flag waved with five laps to go and set up an exciting finish between Hennigan and Hartline with Hennigan picking up the win.

It was Hennigan’s first TOMS win of the 2026 season although he has recorded three top 5 finishes and three top 10’s in 2026.

Stormy Scott (Las Cruces, New Mexico) finished in third place, while Cody Smith (Kaufman, Texas) and Talan Willis (Elizabeth, Louisiana) rounded out the top five finishers.

Mason Day (Farmersville, Texas) had the fast lap of the race on lap 5 with a time of 16.380 seconds, according to My Race Pass timing. Hennigan’s fastest lap came on the opening lap with a time of 16.388 seconds.

Earlier in the night, Jack Sartain (Royse City, Texas) was the winner of the first B feature, while Jason Sartain (Royse City, Texas) won the second B feature.

Day wins fifth TOMS race of 2026

It’s undeniable that Matthew Day is hitting his stride at the right time as the 2026 TOMS season closes in on the halfway point.

Day closed out the second night of the TOMS double-header with his fifth win of 2026 with the series Saturday, at Rocket Raceway Park.

Dating back to May 2, Day has won 3 of the last 7 races with the series with wins at Grayson County Speedway on May 2, RPM Speedway on May 30 and Rocket Raceway Park on June 27.

Day is also the current series points leader over Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas).

In the TOMS race at Rocket Raceway Park, Day was able to lead all 30 laps and overcame a couple of early cautions before the final 18 laps went green to the checkered flag.

Scott was the second place finisher behind Day, while Willis finished third. Bo Day (Greenville, Texas) and Cade Dillard (Robeline, Louisiana) rounded out the top five finishers.

Scott had the fastest lap of the race with a lap time of 17.087 seconds on lap 15, while Day was second fastest at 17.298 seconds on lap 1, respectively.

Steven Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) was the biggest mover gaining 14 spots from 25th to 11th place. Jason Ingalls and Clayton Thompson (Fort Worth) each moved up eight spots (Ingalls 19th to 11 and Thompson 21st to 13th).

Earlier in the night Hartline won the first B feature, while Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Oklahoma) won the second B feature.

The series will be back in action Saturday, July 4, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. The cost for general admission is $20; kids 6-12 are $15; Military with ID are also $15 and kids 5 and under are free. Pit pass will be $35.

The first 250 fans through the gate will get a commemoration flag as the track and our country celebrate its 250th anniversary.

Joining the TOMS will be IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Southern Sport Mods, Hobby/Factory Stocks and Eco Mods.

Melton wins first career TOMS feature at Abilene Speedway

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was back in action June 20, at Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas.

While the car count was lower at 17 total modifieds, the action on the track was non-stop as Mineral Wells, Texas native Chad Melton parked his No. 71 modified in victory lane for his first career win with the series.

“I’m speechless man. It’s hard for me not to get emotional. I’ve been wanting to win one of these (TOMS feature) forever and these guys are so fast,” Melton said in victory lane. “I just want to say if there’s anyone out there and they have doubts, you keep going boy. Keep digging.”

The 25-lap feature race had five cautions with the first one coming three laps in as the 17A car of Aaron Alley (Lakeside City, Texas) made contact with the back stretch wall and came to a stop on the track.

Three laps later, Mark Patterson (Merkel, Texas) brought out the second caution of the race as he came to a stop in turn two.

Jason Sartain (Royce City, Texas) took the lead briefly from Melton with 10 laps to go, however, Melton regained the lead on the next lap.

With eight laps remaining the 14v car of Clayton Thompson (Fort Worth, Texas) went for a spin in turn four and brought out the caution. Sartain would spin one lap later in the same corner for the race’s final caution.

Matthew Day (Farmersville, Texas) finished in a close second behind Melton, while Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) was third. Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) and Josh McGaha (Abilene, Texas) rounded out the top five finishers.

Sartain had the fastest lap of the race on lap 12 with a lap time of 16.003 seconds, according to My Race Pass timing.

Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) and Day were the hard chargers of the race with both drivers moving up seven spots. Hatton started 13th and moved up to sixth, while Day started in ninth and moved up to second, respectively.

Earlier in the night, Fred Wojtek (Blackwell, Texas) and Sartain were the winners of the two heat races.

TOMS set for double-header this weekend

The series turns its attention to Hunt County Raceway this evening, June 26, as they will take part in the Charlie Brown Classic.

The drivers will be competing for a top prize of $2,072 to win and $272 to start. There will also be a dash paying $540 to win and $54 to start.

Races start at 8 p.m. and as always, if you can’t make it out to the track, be sure to catch all the action on Race On.

The TOMS will also be in action on Saturday, June 27, at Rocket Raceway Park to complete the weekend double-header.

Saturday’s race will feature a $1,500 top prize and $240 to start. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps starting at 6:30 p.m. and racing starting at 7 p.m.

General admission will be $25 and $20 for seniors 62 and older or those with a military ID. Kids 6-12 are $10 and kids 5 and under are free. Pit gate cost will be $40. Five and under are free.

Joining the TOMS Saturday will be factory stocks, stock cars, limited/ B-Mods, Jr. limited mods and eco mods.

Willis wins TOMS race at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

Over 45 Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) drivers took to the high banks of Southern Oklahoma Speedway June 13 to compete for a top prize of $1,500.

Talan Willis (Elizabeth, Louisiana) started on the pole and led all 30 laps of the TOMS feature race.

Willis had to survive a handful of cautions along the way and held off second place finisher Stormy Scott (Las Cruces, New Mexico) put up a fight.  

“Man, that was the hardest race I have ever had to lead,” Willis said standing in victory lane. “I just didn’t know where to go. Every time a caution came out, I would over think.

“The middle of (turns) one and two looked good,” he added. “I felt like I could hear someone on my right rear every single lap of the race. The middle started dirtying up so I moved back down to the bottom after the last caution. The track was just real racey. This is my first time here and it is awesome.”

Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma), Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) and Matthew Day (Farmersville, Texas) rounded out the top five.

Abbey turned the fastest lap of the race with a time of 18.128 seconds on lap three.

Day was the biggest mover of the race by moving up 13 spots from 18th to 5th, while Callan Hill (Lawton, Oklahoma) moved up 11 spots from 24th to 13th and Fred Wojtek (Blackwell, Texas) moved up 10 spots from 20th to 10th place, respectively.

Day Wins Third TOMS race of 2026

Day led 15 of the 30 feature race laps en route to his third TOMS race of 2026 May 30, at RPM Speedway. Day’s fastest lap of the race came on lap 13 with a lap time of 13. 619 seconds.

Hartline, who finished runner up to Day, led eight laps, while Jake Upchurch (Midlothian, Texas) led seven laps and finished third.

Cody Smith (Kaufman, Texas) finished fourth and Clyde Dunn Jr. (Rockwall, Texas) rounded out the top five finishers.

Day’s fastest lap of the race came on lap 13 with a lap time of 13. 619 seconds.

Stephen Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) was the biggest mover of the race, advancing 11 spots from 24th to 13th position.

Jason Sartain (Royce City, Texas) moved up 10 spots from 17th to 7th. Chris Huckabea (Midlothian, Texas) also advanced 10 spots from 20th to 10th, respectively.

Christian wins TOMS opener, Day wins night two

ARDMORE, OK- The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) kicked off its 2026 season with two nights of racing March 20 and 21, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

There were 44 cars checked to races with the TOMS on night one of the double-header. 

Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Oklahoma) and his No. 58X car started on the pole and led all 25 laps to claim the win on the opening night.

The 25-lap feature race had two cautions (lap two and lap five) as Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) and Dillion Pike (Waxahachie, Texas) got together in the middle of turns 3 and 4 as both cars spun and came to a rest on the track. 

Three laps later, Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) and Matthew Day spun in turn 4, drawing the caution flag. 

The race went green for the next 20 laps as Christian was able to stretch his lead while navigating lap traffic and ended up winning by 7.82 seconds. 

Christian’s fastest lap was on lap six with a time of 18.659 seconds according to My Race Pass timing. 

“It felt pretty good. I didn’t really know where to be at,” Christian said standing in victory lane. “I kind of just kept looking out of the corner of my eye for someone’s nose. I just tried to get through lap traffic the best I could.”

“It takes a lot of pressure off when you can win one early in the year,” he said. “You can just have a lot more fun with it.”

Bo Day (Greenville, Texas) was the second-place finisher, while Matthew Day (Farmersville, Texas) was third. Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) finished fourth and Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) rounded out the top five.  

Abbey was the biggest mover, up 13 spots from his 17th starting spot, while M. Day moved up nine spots from 12th. 

Earlier in the night the TOMS raced two B-Mains, which were won by Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) and Taylor.

Night two at Southern Oklahoma Speedway saw Matthew Day win his first career TOMS feature race. 

The first 10 laps of Saturday’s feature race went green with Ryan Veal (Princeton, Texas) leading the first seven laps. Christian gained the top spot on lap nine before a caution from a Jason Sartain (Royce City, Texas) spin in turn 4 brought out the caution.

Day took the lead with 12 laps remaining before a spin by Rusty Trevathan (Wylie, Texas) brought out a caution with two laps remaining. 

With an impending green-white-checker finish coming, Day was able to jump out to the lead and claim the win. 

“I’ve had a couple outlaw wins, but nothing with the TOMS,” Day said on his first win with the series. “It’s definitely a cool deal to get and especially against the talent level that we had here. 44 cars at this level and probably 12 guys could win it any given night, and we drove up through the field. I wish Gary (Christian) wouldn’t have broken. I’d like to see if I had anything for him, but sometimes that’s the way it goes.” 

Abbey was the second place finisher behind Day, while Hartline finished third. Chris Henigan (Marshall, Texas) was fourth and Colby Smith rounded out the top five. 

Hartline was the biggest mover driving his car up 15 spots to third, Henigan and Jeff Taylor each moved up 15 spots as well for a fourth and seventh place finish, respectively. 

Christian had the fastest lap of the race on lap seven with a lap time of 18.474 seconds before something malfunction on his racecar on lap 18 and he had to pull to the infield.
