The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was in action for a double-header this past weekend at Hunt County Raceway and Rocket Raceway Park.

The series opened the weekend on Friday with the annual Charlie Brown Classic.

With 35 drivers in attendance, the fans were treated to a great night of racing as Chris Hennigan (Marshall, Texas) won the feature race.

Hennigan led all 30 laps of the feature race, but was challenged for the majority of the race by Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) and Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas).

An early caution two laps into the feature set up for some thrilling door-to-door racing for the next 23 laps as Hennigan began working his way through lap traffic.

The yellow flag waved with five laps to go and set up an exciting finish between Hennigan and Hartline with Hennigan picking up the win.

It was Hennigan’s first TOMS win of the 2026 season although he has recorded three top 5 finishes and three top 10’s in 2026.

Stormy Scott (Las Cruces, New Mexico) finished in third place, while Cody Smith (Kaufman, Texas) and Talan Willis (Elizabeth, Louisiana) rounded out the top five finishers.

Mason Day (Farmersville, Texas) had the fast lap of the race on lap 5 with a time of 16.380 seconds, according to My Race Pass timing. Hennigan’s fastest lap came on the opening lap with a time of 16.388 seconds.

Earlier in the night, Jack Sartain (Royse City, Texas) was the winner of the first B feature, while Jason Sartain (Royse City, Texas) won the second B feature.

Day wins fifth TOMS race of 2026

It’s undeniable that Matthew Day is hitting his stride at the right time as the 2026 TOMS season closes in on the halfway point.

Day closed out the second night of the TOMS double-header with his fifth win of 2026 with the series Saturday, at Rocket Raceway Park.

Dating back to May 2, Day has won 3 of the last 7 races with the series with wins at Grayson County Speedway on May 2, RPM Speedway on May 30 and Rocket Raceway Park on June 27.

Day is also the current series points leader over Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas).

In the TOMS race at Rocket Raceway Park, Day was able to lead all 30 laps and overcame a couple of early cautions before the final 18 laps went green to the checkered flag.

Scott was the second place finisher behind Day, while Willis finished third. Bo Day (Greenville, Texas) and Cade Dillard (Robeline, Louisiana) rounded out the top five finishers.

Scott had the fastest lap of the race with a lap time of 17.087 seconds on lap 15, while Day was second fastest at 17.298 seconds on lap 1, respectively.

Steven Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) was the biggest mover gaining 14 spots from 25^th to 11^th place. Jason Ingalls and Clayton Thompson (Fort Worth) each moved up eight spots (Ingalls 19^th to 11 and Thompson 21^st to 13^th).

Earlier in the night Hartline won the first B feature, while Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Oklahoma) won the second B feature.

The series will be back in action Saturday, July 4, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. The cost for general admission is $20; kids 6-12 are $15; Military with ID are also $15 and kids 5 and under are free. Pit pass will be $35.

The first 250 fans through the gate will get a commemoration flag as the track and our country celebrate its 250^th anniversary.

Joining the TOMS will be IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Southern Sport Mods, Hobby/Factory Stocks and Eco Mods.

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was back in action Saturday, Aug. 9, at Hunt County Raceway for the 11^th Annual Hella Shrine Classic.

Adding to the excitement of the event was a bicycle giveaway for the kids in attendance. Several TOMS drivers contributed by bringing bicycles and they went above and beyond crushing a previous record of 56 bikes with a total of 112 bicycles to give away to the kids.

The event, which is dedicated to helping the Children’s Shriner’s Hospital, is a big race for the TOMS and all those involved.

“This is something the TOMS drivers look forward to every year,” said Ricky Randall, who originally started the Hella Shrine Classic in 2015. “We have raised over $200,000 since we started doing the event each year. The first year, we raised $3,000 and it has gone as high as $30,000.

“The money raised goes to the transportation fund at Hella,” Randall said. “We use the money to transport patients to and from the hospital for various appointments. We can also help the parents with lodging. Some of the rules have changed now to where the Temple can only keep so much of the money raised for the transportation fund, and the rest goes to the (Shriner’s) hospital. We do it all for the kids.”

The action on the track in the TOMS feature race was equally as exciting as seeing the smiles on all the young kids’ faces.

Colby Smith (Greenville, Texas) led the opening 10 laps before Shane Hartline took the lead with 15 laps remaining.

A caution slowed the field down with seven laps remaining as the 477 car of Tracy Adams (Rowlett, Texas) spun in turns three and four.

When the green flag was waved again, Hartline jumped out to a sizeable lead and would lead the remaining seven laps to claim his third win of the season.

With his win at Southern Oklahoma Speedway on Aug. 2, Hartline became just the second driver to win back-to-back races so far in the 2025 season.

Jake Huckaby (Texarkana, Texas) was the first to win back-to-back races with wins at Heart O’ Texas Speedway and Abilene Speedway on July 11 and July 19.

Hartline also extended his points lead over Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) who is now 68 points behind Hartline.

Smith was the second-place finisher at Hunt County, while Chris Henigan (Marshall, Texas) placed third. Jack Sartain (Royse City, Texas) finished fourth and James McCreery (Midlothian, Texas) was fifth.

Smith had the fastest lap of the race with a lap time of 16.441 seconds according to My Race Pass timing.

McCreery and Abbey were the hard chargers of the race with both drivers moving up seven spots. McCreery started 13^th and moved up to sixth place, while Abbey started a little deeper in the field in 20^th and moved up to 13^th, respectively.

The next TOMS race will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, at Kennedale Speedway Park. The race was originally scheduled for April 5 but was rescheduled due to weather.

The series will race a two-day show at Rocket Raceway Park for the Brian Mize Memorial on Aug. 29 and 30.

One race will take place in September as the series travels to Grayson County on Sept. 9. The TOMS Nationals will be held Oct. 24 and 25, at RPM Speedway, in Crandall, Texas.
