Christian wins TOMS opener, Day wins night two

ARDMORE, OK- The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) kicked off its 2026 season with two nights of racing March 20 and 21, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

There were 44 cars checked to races with the TOMS on night one of the double-header.

Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Oklahoma) and his No. 58X car started on the pole and led all 25 laps to claim the win on the opening night.

The 25-lap feature race had two cautions (lap two and lap five) as Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) and Dillion Pike (Waxahachie, Texas) got together in the middle of turns 3 and 4 as both cars spun and came to a rest on the track.

Three laps later, Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) and Matthew Day spun in turn 4, drawing the caution flag.

The race went green for the next 20 laps as Christian was able to stretch his lead while navigating lap traffic and ended up winning by 7.82 seconds.

Christian’s fastest lap was on lap six with a time of 18.659 seconds according to My Race Pass timing.

“It felt pretty good. I didn’t really know where to be at,” Christian said standing in victory lane. “I kind of just kept looking out of the corner of my eye for someone’s nose. I just tried to get through lap traffic the best I could.”

“It takes a lot of pressure off when you can win one early in the year,” he said. “You can just have a lot more fun with it.”

Bo Day (Greenville, Texas) was the second-place finisher, while Matthew Day (Farmersville, Texas) was third. Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) finished fourth and Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) rounded out the top five.

Abbey was the biggest mover, up 13 spots from his 17^th starting spot, while M. Day moved up nine spots from 12^th.

Earlier in the night the TOMS raced two B-Mains, which were won by Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) and Taylor.

Night two at Southern Oklahoma Speedway saw Matthew Day win his first career TOMS feature race.

The first 10 laps of Saturday’s feature race went green with Ryan Veal (Princeton, Texas) leading the first seven laps. Christian gained the top spot on lap nine before a caution from a Jason Sartain (Royce City, Texas) spin in turn 4 brought out the caution.

Day took the lead with 12 laps remaining before a spin by Rusty Trevathan (Wylie, Texas) brought out a caution with two laps remaining.

With an impending green-white-checker finish coming, Day was able to jump out to the lead and claim the win.

“I’ve had a couple outlaw wins, but nothing with the TOMS,” Day said on his first win with the series. “It’s definitely a cool deal to get and especially against the talent level that we had here. 44 cars at this level and probably 12 guys could win it any given night, and we drove up through the field. I wish Gary (Christian) wouldn’t have broken. I’d like to see if I had anything for him, but sometimes that’s the way it goes.”

Abbey was the second place finisher behind Day, while Hartline finished third. Chris Henigan (Marshall, Texas) was fourth and Colby Smith rounded out the top five.

Hartline was the biggest mover driving his car up 15 spots to third, Henigan and Jeff Taylor each moved up 15 spots as well for a fourth and seventh place finish, respectively.

Christian had the fastest lap of the race on lap seven with a lap time of 18.474 seconds before something malfunction on his racecar on lap 18 and he had to pull to the infield.

Hartline picks up fourth TOMS win of 2025 season at Rocket Raceway Park

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was at the Rocket Raceway Park for the 11^th Annual Bryan Mize Memorial race.

The event was originally scheduled as a two-night event, but Mother Nature was the winner on night two as the second night was canceled due to rain in the forecast.

The field was stacked with talent as 39 TOMS drivers checked in for the event.

In the A feature, Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) led the opening lap, but Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) led the next three laps before the field was slowed for a caution as Jack Sartain (Royse City, Texas) lost the handle on his No. 47 car and spun exiting turn two.

The field completed one lap under green before another caution came out as Steven Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) came to a stop at the top of turn four.

On the ensuing green flag, Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Oklahoma) made contact with Ingalls as he hit a “character spot” and slid up the track exiting turn four. The contact put Ingalls into the front stretch wall and ultimately ended his night. Ingalls was leading the race at the time of the incident.

Jake Huckaby (Texarkana, Texas) took over the race lead and went on to lead 11 laps before a caution for debris with 16 laps remaining slowed the drivers down and forced another restart.

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) took the lead from Huckaby with nine laps to go as Huckaby slipped up exiting turn two.

Hartline would go on to lead the remaining nine laps and capture his fourth TOMS victory of the 2025 season.

Hartline also stretched his points lead over Abbey to 51 points following Abbey’s fourth place finish.

Huckaby finished second, while Sartain was third. Abbey was fourth and Bryan Gunwall (Brookston, Texas) rounded out the top five.

Sartain recorded the fastest lap of the race with a time of 14.420 seconds on lap 17, according to My Race Pass timing.

The hard chargers of the night were Kale Murphey (Tullos, Louisiana) and Dale Carr (Sadler, Texas).

Murphey moved up 15 spots from his 23^rd starting position for an eighth-place finish, while Carr moved up 12 spots from his 21^st starting position and finished behind Murphey in ninth place.

Abbey stays in TOMS Championship hunt with win at Kennedale Speedway Park

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was in action Saturday evening under the lights at Kennedale Speedway Park, in Kennedale, Texas. The event was a make-up race from April 5 when it rained out.

With clear skies and warm summer temperatures, 30 drivers checked in for the event and the fans were not disappointed as the drivers displayed their talents in front of a packed crowd.

Saturday’s 25-lap feature race went caution free from start to finish, however there was some early drama during the parade laps as a car suddenly came to a stop on the front stretch during the series’ traditional four-wide salute to the fans. The mishap collected four other drivers in the process that were in line.

Once the drivers were able to take the green flag, the action on the track was exciting and fun to watch as Mason Day (Farmersville, Texas) and Chris Huckeba (Midlothian, Texas) swapped the lead back and forth on the opening four laps with Day leading lap one and three and Huckeba leading lap two and four.

As the drivers settled in and found their rhythm, Huckeba led eight laps until Justin McCoy (Grandview, Texas) took over the top spot with 12 laps remaining.

McCoy went on to lead four laps until Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) passed McCoy with eight laps remaining.

Abbey went on to pick up the win, his second TOMS win of the 2025 season, while McCoy finished in second place.

Huckeba finished third, while Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) and Matthew Day (Farmersville, Texas) rounded out the top five.

The win was particularly important for Abbey as he tries to chase day current points leader Shane Hartline.

Hartline had a 68-point lead prior to the Kennedale race, but Abbey was able to cut the deficit to 38 points following the win and an 11^th place finish in Saturday’s feature.

Abbey, who has seen a great deal of success at Kennedale Speedway Park was happy following the win.

“Man, it’s awesome to be back to victory lane,” Abbey said standing in victory lane. “Especially here. It seems like this place has been really good to us this year. We won when we were here on the tour, we sucked the one time we been here in the stockcar, and then the one time we bring the outlaw car, we were able to get it done.”

Huckeba recorded the fastest lap of the race with a time of 16.992 on lap two, according to My Race Pass timing. Abbey was right behind him with a fastest lap time of 17.051 seconds on lap 18.

The hard chargers of the night were Matthew Day and Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma). Day moved up nine spots from his 14^th starting position for a fifth-place finish, while Westover moved up six positions from 13^th to seventh place, respectively.

Hartline wins TOMS feature at Southern Oklahoma Speedway; extends points lead

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was in action once again Saturday, Aug. 2, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway.

It was the final trip to SOS for the series as 32 drivers checked in to chase the $1,500 prize money at the end of the night.

Austin Bonner (Elk City, Oklahoma) and Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) started on the front row of the 24-car A feature race.

Abbey led the opening lap and went on to lead the first 13 green flag laps of the 25-lap feature before the caution flag waved with 12 laps remaining.

Kale Westover took the top spot with 10 laps to go; however, the caution flag waved once again three laps later as Sam Cox (Flower Mound, Texas) spun in turns three and four.

The field completed one green flag lap before Jeff Taylor (Locust Grove, Arkansas) spun in turns one and two collecting Fred Wojtek (Blackwell, Texas) as he came to a sliding stop trying to avoid Taylor.

Leading with six laps remaining, Westover was forced to pull off the track during the caution after an issue on the rearend of his 15w car. Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) inherited the lead.

Two laps were completed before Abbey spun in the middle of turns three and four. The restart didn’t go as planned for Abbey as him and Ryan Veal (Princeton, Texas) made slight contact enter turns one and two bringing out the caution once again with four laps remaining.

The race would stay green for the final four laps as Hartline cruised to the win.

The win was Hartline’s second TOMS win of the 2025 season, having won at Rocket Raceway Park on May 31.

Hartline, who has led the points for the majority of the 2025 season, increased his points lead significantly with the win.

Hartline entered Saturday’s race at SOS with a four-point lead over Abbey. He received the maximum number of points (100 points) with the win. Abbey’s 12^th place finish in the feature race helped him stretch the lead even further to 36 points of second place Abbey.

“It means the world to me right now (to win),” Hartline said in victory lane. “It was only four points between me and Dean. So, I saw him spin out in (turn) three so that really helped and it just took all the I don’t know nerves away. I just started trying to pick my lane and go.”

Being in the right place at the right time helped Hartline’s effort with Westover pulling off the track with 10 laps remaining.

“I stayed pace with him there after that one caution, but I don’t know,” Hartline said on catching Westover. “Maybe if the top would have went away in three and four, maybe. “I got there on the bottom, I used that most of the race, at least at the start of the race when it was two wide to get there.

“I worked the bottom in three and four and I found a grove trying to stay on the (infield tractor) tire, so I had to slow down a lot,” Hartline continued. “I felt like I managed their speed on the top, so I feel like that was the key to the race.”

Justin McCoy (Irving, Texas) finished in second place after winning B Feature 2 and starting f4th, while Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) rounded out the podium finishers in third place.

Jason Webb (McKinney, Texas) finished fourth and Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) rounded out the top five with a fifth-place finish.

Westover recorded the fastest lap of the feature race with a time of 18.481 seconds.

Hatton and Steven Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) were race’s hard chargers by moving up 15 spots each from their 20^th and 23^rd starting positions for a fifth and eighth place finish, respectively.

Wesley Veal moved up 13 spots from his 16^th starting position for a third-place finish. Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) also moved up 13 spots to finish ninth after starting in 22^nd place.

Wojtek set to compete in TOMS opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

The 2025 Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) season will kick-off at 7 p.m. today March 21 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore Oklahoma.

Tonight’s race will be night the first of two separate races this weekend at SOS. Both nights will have a hefty $1,500 to win purse and will pay $240 to start.

General admission to the track will be $20 and kids 6-12, military, and seniors will be $15. Pit passes will be $35.

For Blackwell native Fred “Fast Freddy” Wojtek the 2025 season opener will be a fresh start for him as he experienced a series of bad luck during the summer months of 2024.

Despite the bad luck, Wojtek finished eighth in the points in his second year with the series. He closed out the 2024 season with a fifth-place finish on the second night of the TOMS Nationals held Oct. 25 and 26, at Grayson County Speedway.

Wojtek will look to put 2024 behind him as he starts his third season as he will be on a different chassis in 2025.

“We decided to go with our GRT,” Wojtek said. “That car has been a proven winner for us, and it’s a car that I’m real comfortable with. We had a body put on it and made it more of an outlaw car. We did some updates on the front end and made the body where it’s more of an outlaw style body.”

“We raced it at Grayson (during TOMS Nationals) and it was still pretty much set up IMCA,” Wojtek continued. “So, we updated some things on it, and we are going to go that route until we can get the MB (chassis) sold. We might try to buy something new or maybe not quite as old as what we have been running.”

For Wojtek, the GRT chassis has been a good car for him with success at the IMCA level.

“We have won a couple IMCA championships with the GRT,” he said. “Like I said, I’m real comfortable with the GRT and I know it really well. The GRT has been freshened up. Me and my dad tore it down to bare frame and then we put all new parts on it a couple years ago. So, everything that’s on it maybe has about six or seven nights on it with all the new parts on it.”

The 2025 season will have some different tracks on the schedule for Wojtek and the TOMS compared to the 2024 season with RPM, Rocket Raceway Park, Boothill Speedway and Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

Wojtek said he has experience at three of the four tracks with Boothill Speedway being the only one he has not raced at.

“I went to Ark-La-Tex a long time ago when I first started racing in 2006,” Wojtek said. “They had a $5000 to win stockcar race. I ran the heat race and got in a wreck and bent the frame and ended up loading up and going home. I think I’ve made about 15 laps on that track counting hot laps.

“We ran RPM in 2023 when they had a two-night show there,” Wojtek said. “The first night a piece of mud or something hit my kill switch, and we slipped back towards the back and then came back and got around 12^th. The second night the track had some character to it. I think I ended up finishing second that night. So, I like RPM. It seems to fit my style well.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s races at SOS, SOS has been a solid track for Wojtek in the past with an average finish of 8.8 with two top 5’s and four top 10’s.

Wojtek’s best finish at SOS in 2024 came on April 6 with a third-place finish in the feature race. On May 4, he finished eighth in the feature and on the final trip to SOS with the TOMS on July 6, he did not start the feature race after having issues in the heat race.

“I really like SOS. I’ve never won there, but I’ve always wanted to win at that track,” he said. “I like Oklahoma. It’s a little bit bigger than what we normally run on and I’m ready to win one there. Hopefully, this weekend we can get us a win there.”
