Huckaby wins first career TOMS feature at HOT Speedway; RPM race postponed

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was back in action with a double-header weekend at Heart O’ Texas Speedway and RPM Speedway.

Jake Huckaby (Texarkana, Texas) picked up his first career TOMS feature win Friday evening at HOT Speedway.

Huckaby led 24 of the 25 laps in a race that featured five cautions in the first 10 laps. Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) led took the lead with 12 laps remaining, but Huckaby would pass him back on the next lap.

A caution with 10 laps remaining set the stage for a restart and would lead to two more cautions on back-to-back laps as John Smelly (Longview, Texas) and James Hoffman Jr. (Lorena, Texas) both spun in turn two.

The field restarted with eight laps remaining and Huckaby was able to hold off a strong effort from Hatton for the win.

Hatton appeared to finish second, however, an issue during the mandatory post-race inspection erased his finish and resulted in a DQ.

Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) finished second officially behind Huckaby, while Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) finished in third place. Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) and Justin McCoy (Grandview, Texas) rounded out the top five finishers.

It was a dream come true for Huckaby as he talked about what it took to battle through all the early race cautions and recalled how he was able to pick up his first TOMS feature win.

“Man, I can’t believe it right now. I’ve dreamed of this day since I started racing,” Huckaby said standing in victory lane. “Hats off to these guys. Chase threw a couple sliders on me, and I wanted to run him as clean as possible, but I knew I had a chance at it. So, I fought as hard as I could back to him.

“All of them cautions, I was getting a little nervous and didn’t know what I needed to do, but I kept looking at my dad and he told me just to run my line and run my race,” Huckaby said. “That’s exactly what I did.”

Hatton had the fastest lap of the race with a lap time of 15.505 seconds on lap 5 according to My Race Pass timing.

Ingalls was the hard charger of the race by moving up 10 spots from his 15^th starting position to finish fifth. James McCreery (Midlothian, Texas) and Hoffman Jr. both moved up eight spots for a finish of 10^th and 16^th respectively.

Sartain Wins April 4 make up race

The series also held a make-up race on Friday evening for the April 4 event that was canceled right after the heat races due to rain.

Jack Sartain was the winner of the make-up feature after leading all of the 25 laps.

Sartain, who started on the outside of the front row, took the lead exiting turn two of the opening lap and never looked back.

The caution flag flew on lap three as Eric Tomlinson (Robinson, Texas) spun in turn one.

The race would go caution free for the next 20 laps before Smelly came to a stop at the exit of turn four prior to Sartain taking the white flag.

The drivers would close the race out with a green-white-checker finish with Sartain hanging on for the win.

“The track kind of cleaned off real good in the middle, so I felt like I could probably win the thing,” Sartain said of the late race restart. “But you never know with a restart. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Veal finished in second place behind Sartain, while Ingalls was third; Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) was fourth and Abbey rounded out the top five.

Veal had the fastest lap time of the feature race with a time of 16.147 seconds on lap 13 according to My Race Pass timing.

Robert McKinney was the hard charger of the race, improving 10 spots from his 18^th starting positions for an eighth-place finish.

RPM Speedway 7-12-25

Mother Nature was the ultimate winner as the event was cancelled shortly after the conclusion of the B Feature races.

The feature races will be made up during the TOMS Nationals held Oct. 24 and 25, at RPM Speedway.

Westover victorious at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

Nothing says “America” like fireworks, dirt track racing and the some of the fastest and most talented modified drivers in the southern part of the United States on July 4^th weekend.

Fans in attendance at Southern Oklahoma Speedway were treated to all the above and more Saturday, July 5, as the Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) drivers were on hand to display their talents. There was a season-high 41 entries for the event.

Saturday’s feature race had five cautions and two different leaders as Jason Webb (McKinney, Texas) and Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) battled it out for the majority of the race.

The first caution of the race came on the first lap as Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) and points leader Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) tangled up on the opening lap.

The field completed two laps before Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) spun exiting turn two and collected Sam Cox’s (Flower Mound, Texas) No. 3 car.

Webb led another two laps before Hatton spun in turn two, which brought out the third caution of the race.

Another caution with 8 of the 25 laps completed forced another restart for Webb. On the restart Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) spun in the middle of turns one and two to bring out another caution.

Webb went on to lead the next seven laps before Westover was able to dip to the low side while navigating around a lap car exiting turn four and took the lead with 10 laps remaining.

Westover stretched his lead out nearly a full straight-away and won the race with a 3.323 second margin according to My Race Pass timing.

Patience was key for Westover as he waited until Webb caught lap traffic to make his move.

“It was so hard to pass, and he (Webb) was in the fastest lane around the track,” Westover said standing in victory lane. “So, I knew if just pace him enough and once we caught the lap traffic, I got on his tail just trying to figure out what he was going to do. I probably would have done the same thing he did in his situation. It just worked out for me that the lapper just kind of pushed up a little bit and I snugged her around the tires.

“Once I got cleared, I knew I had to jump up and get moving,” he added. “Jason’s stuff was really good. I was probably going to finish second behind him if it wasn’t for them lappers.”

Webb finished second. Mitchell Clement (Bonham, Texas) was third, while Colby Smith (Greenville, Texas) was fourth and Jake Huckaby (Texarkana, Texas) rounded out the top five finishers.

Ingalls was the hard chargers of the race, moving up 13 positions from his 20^th starting spot to finish seventh. Justin McCoy (Grandview, Texas) moved up 10 spots from his 18^th starting spot to finish behind Ingalls in eighth place.

Smith had the fast lap (unofficially) with a lap time of 17.310 seconds on lap eight.

Abbey picks up first career TOMS win at Rocket Raceway Park; Webb wins Inaugural Ark-La-Tex TOMS race

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was back in action Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, evening for two nights of racing.

The series originally was originally scheduled to race at Boothill Speedway on Friday, June 20, however the series posted on its Facebook page on June 13, that the race at Boothill was canceled and the series would be racing at Rocket Raceway Park instead.

Friday’s action at Rocket Raceway Park featured a caution-free A Feature race that eventually led to a first time series winner in Dean Abbey.

Abbey (Boyd, Texas) started the race on the outside of the front row, and after Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) led the opening lap, Abbey passed Ingalls on lap two for the race lead.

Abbey went on to lead the next 15 laps, and as the field caught lap traffic, Chase Allen (Midlothian, Texas) was able to pass Abbey exiting turn 2.

Allen led the next five laps and looked to set sail with the lead, but Abbey didn’t want to be denied as he battled back with Allen and made slight contact as the field crossed the stripe with five laps remaining.

Allen would lead one more lap before being forced to pull to the infield as he exited turn two after what appeared to be some kind of malfunction with his No. 49 car.

Abbey regained the lead and would pick up the win.

Abbey, who filled in as a guest commentator for the Race On broadcast during the B feature races, joked about his time in the pressbox during his post-race interview with the track announcer.

“Hey, maybe that’s the luck I needed,” Abbey said. “I got to sit up there for a minute and cool off and kind of watch the racing and look at the racetrack. It gave me a really good sense of where I wanted to be.”

As far as the race itself, Abbey said he was able to make an adjustment when Allen passed him for the lead and capitalized on a mistake later by Allen to help him win.

“I thought I gave it away for a minute when Chase (Allen) got by me and then I saw what he was doing,” he said. “The lapped traffic played into my favor a bit, but man, what a racecar we had. I knew I was giving up (time) down here (turn one and two). I was getting tight in those holes and then I’d be up there in the slick coming off. Then, I started searching and Chase made a mistake, and I was able to capitalize in lap traffic.”

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) finished in second place, while Ingalls was third, Jason Webb (McKinney, Texas) finished fourth and Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) improved five spots from his 10^th place starting position for a top five finish.

Abbey led 19 of the 25 laps, while Allen led five laps and Jason Ingalls led one lap.

Chris Henigan (Marshall, Texas) was the hard charger of the race, moving up 10 positions from 17^th to seventh.

Jason Hillard (Cache, Oklahoma) improved nine spots from 23^rd to 14^th and Jason Langford (Palestine, Texas) moved up six positions from 19^th to 13^th.

Allen had the fastest lap time with a time of 15.848 on lap five according to My Race Pass timing.

ARK-LA-TEX

It was an inaugural trip to the Ark-La-Tex Speedway Saturday evening, June 21, 2025, in Vivian, Louisiana, for the Touring Outlaw Modified Series.

Leading into the feature race, Chris Henigan was arguably the favorite to win the feature race after winning his heat race earlier in the night and being a regular at Ark-La-Tex Speedway and seeing a great deal of success.

Hennigan had five wins in the previous 10 trips he made to the track with the USRA Modifieds.

Unfortunately for Hennigan, his feature race did not go as he had hoped, as he had issues with his racecar before the drop of the green flag after being set to start on the pole of the feature.

Hennigan was able to make a few laps from the 24^th starting position before pulling off the track.

Abbey moved up from his original second place starting position to the pole and from the drop of the green flag, set his sights on back-to-back TOMS wins.

Abbey led the first 10 laps of the feature race before colliding with the infield tractor tire exiting turn two. The mishap would send him back to 23^rd.

Drake Findley (Bryant, Arkansas) inherited the race lead and led six laps before colliding with John Smelly (Longview, Texas) following a spin by Smelly in the middle of turns one and two.

Tanner Barnhart (North Little Rock, Arkansas) took over the lead with eight laps remaining and survived two more cautions (Lap 19 and 21).

Jason Webb (McKinney, Texas) took the lead with two laps remaining while exiting turn two and went on to become the sixth winner in six TOMS events.

“This track started to widen out there and just made for damn good racing,” Webb said standing in victory lane. “Before that last restart, I kind of got up there (turn three and four) and checked it out. It seemed like it had some grip. That was kind of the last choice and where I ended up.”

Barnhart finished second behind Webb, while Landon Rogers (Karnack, Texas) finished in third place; Hartline was fourth; and Abbey rounded out the top five after rebounding from his mishap earlier in the race.

Abbey led 10 laps. Findley led seven laps, while Barnhart led six laps and Webb led two laps.

Webb and Donnie Powers (Henderson, Texas) were the races’ hard chargers with both improving seven positions from their original starting spots. Webb started eighth and Powers started 15^th and finished eighth.

Abbey had the fastest lap of the race with a lap time of 15.255 seconds on lap five, according to My Race Pass timing.

Smith scores TOMS win at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was back in action Saturday, June 14, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

A total of 37 TOMS drivers checked in to tackle the 3/8 semi-banked “D” oval.

This was the first time the series has made the trip to SOS since the season opener back on March 21 and 22.

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas), the TOMS current points leader, started on the pole and led the first 12 laps of the feature race before he was passed by Colby Smith (Greenville, Texas) as the two navigated lap traffic.

Smith, who started on the outside of the front row, set sail with the lead and looked like he was going to run away with it, however a spin by David Tanner brought out a caution with nine laps remaining.

Smith timed the restart just right and would open a sizable lead and lead the final nine laps, while Hartline was unable to run him down for a late race pass for the lead.

Smith’s margin of victory was 1.366 seconds according to My Race Pass timing and was his first TOMS win of 2025. Smith placed 6^th at SOS on March 21 and picked up a TOMS win at SOS on Aug. 3, 2024.

“It was real crowed (with lap traffic),” Smith said standing in victory lane. “I was just trying to keep pace with Shane. He took off pretty quick there early on. Whenever we did catch them (lap traffic), they were everywhere. They were really thick.

“I just waited to see where he (Hartline) went and wherever he went, I was going to go the opposite and see what happened and it worked out,” he said.

Dean Abbey (Boyd, Texas) picked up his second straight top 5 finish with the TOMS after a third-place finish, while Michell Clement (Bonham, Texas) drove from his 10^th place starting position to finish fourth.

Kale Westover (Altus, Oklahoma) rounded out the top five with a fifth-place finish after starting ninth.

Matthew Day, Jason Ingalls, Chad Melton, Jeff Taylor and Jake Huckaby rounded out the top 10 finishers.

Jason Gamez (Kaufmann, Texas) was the biggest mover of the race by moving up 13 positions to finish just outside the top 10 in 11^th after starting 24^th.

Jake Huckaby (Texarkana, Texas) improved 10 spots from his 20^th starting position en route to a 10^th place finish.

Smith recorded the feature race’s fastest lap with a lap time of 18.292 seconds on lap 18, according to My Race Pass timing.

Final lap pass leads to TOMS win for Hartline at Rocket Raceway Park

Following a series of rainouts and cancellations, the Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) was finally able to get a full night of racing completed Saturday, May 31, at Rocket Raceway Park.

Saturday’s race was the first race attempted to complete in nearly two months, as the last time the series was in action was April 4 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway (HOT) in Waco.

The race on April 4 was called at the conclusion of the heat races as a rain shower moved in on the speedway. The race was later rescheduled for the next time the series would be at HOT on May 2.

Unfortunately, that race was also canceled due to rain.

It has been a tough start to the 2025 for the TOMS with the series seeing four rainouts in the first seven races, including four in a row (Kennedale April 4, HOT May 2, Hunt County May 3, and Grayson County May 17), so Saturday’s clear skies and temps in the mid 80s was a welcome sign for the series officials, drivers, fans and track promoters.

The action on the track was equally exciting as 35 drivers checked in to race in the Outlaw Modified class.

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) made a last lap pass going into turn 3 over leader Mitchell Clement (Bonham, Texas) to claim the feature win.

“That feels pretty good being a last lap deal,” Hartline said following the race. “I was just trying to buy my time and stay on the bottom, but that was pretty exhilarating.

“I worked the bottom down here in (turn) 1 and 2 the whole race because I kept seeing every caution there was a car that jumped the cushion,” he continued. “It was getting pretty treacherous up there (top line), so I figured it was better for me to minimize the mistakes I could make.”

Hartline finished runner-up to Clement in the TOMS opener at Southern Oklahoma on March 21 after Hartline led the first 14 laps of that race.

In Saturday’s race, Jack Sartain started on the pole and led six laps before the race’s first caution as Chase Hatton brought out the caution following a spin in turn 2.

A second spin by Hatton brought out another caution before a lap could be scored on the restart.

Sartain went on to lead the next five laps before Josh Cain’s car went for a spin in turn 2 on lap 11; however during the caution, Sartain would pull off the track and not finish the remaining 14 laps of the race.

Two more laps were completed before Colby Smith spun on lap 13 off of turn 2 with Clement leading the race.

Clement went on to lead the next 11 laps and took the final lap leading the race, however, a slight slip up exiting turn 2 allowed Hartline to dive to the inside of him in turn three with the two battling to the finish line in an exciting finish.

Dean Abbey was the third-place finisher and the hard charger of the race, moving up 10 spots from his 13^th start position. Jason Ingals and Jason Sartain rounded out the top five.

Mathew Day finished sixth, while Hatton finished in seventh place after bringing out the race’s first two cautions. Justin McCoy, Sam Cox and Troy Taylor rounded out the top 10 finishers.

Blown motor ends Wojtek’s feature early at Rocket Raceway Park

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) were back in action Saturday night at Rocket Raceway Park, in Petty, Texas.

Coming off an up and down season opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway back on March 21 and 22, Blackwell native Fred “Fast Freddy” Wojtek was hoping to build off a strong rebound finish in the feature race.

However, with around 18 of the 25 laps completed, Wojtek’s motor blew and ended his night with a 17th place finish.

“We had a rod that is hanging outside the pan,” Wojtek said. “Another crappy night, but I guess it could be worse. It’s going to be a little bit before we are going to be able to race with the TOMS guys. We are going to have to get us a motor a built or fixed or see what we got here.”

Wojtek started 12^th in the feature and moved up to ninth, before falling back to around 10^th when the motor blew.

“It’s just more bad luck,” Wojtek said. “I hate to say that all the time. I had no warning that it was going to blow.”

Saturday’s night at Rocket Raceway Park started out pretty good for Wojtek, who finished second in his heat race behind Jack Sartain.

“We had a pretty decent heat race,” Wojtek said. “The car was a little tight in the heat race. We didn’t do anything to it for the feature.”

The race Saturday night was the series’ first full event since the opening weekend in March.

The race on April 4, was called after the heat races with a make up date set for May 2, however that race was rained out as well.

Mother Nature has been victorious in the last five of seven races for the TOMS.

Wojtek raced one race outside of the TOMS on May 10, at Abilene Speedway where he raced an IMCA Modified.

Wojtek started 13^th in the feature race and moved up 10 spots to finish in third place.

Having been a few weeks since he last raced, Wojtek said it took him a few laps to find his rhythm and battled tight conditions most of the night.

“The car was tight on the throttle,” Wojtek said. “I was fighting it a lot. Every once and a while, I could find a good groove and pass a few cars but just couldn’t stay consistent. The track was a little different than what we normally run. I think this is the third time we have been on this track, so I don’t have a lot of notes for it. Hopefully, when we come back next time, we will be a little better.”

The next scheduled race for the TOMS is Saturday, June 14, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

At the time of this article, it is unclear if Wojtek will be competing at the next race.

Rain shortens TOMS race at HOT Speedway; make up date set for May 2

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) race at Heart O’ Texas Speedway was cut short Friday evening, at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, in Elm Mott, Texas.

Mother Nature was the ultimate winner as track and series officials were forced to cancel for the night due to rain after the second B Main of the stock car division .

The TOMS were able to get all three of their heat races in and later said in a Facebook post on the series’ Facebook page that the series will make up the feature race on Friday, May 2, when the series plans to return to HOT Speedway.

“We will make up tonight’s A Feature for the 18 cars that were checked in tonight,” the Facebook post reads. “We will also run a full show as scheduled from tonight’s makeup A Feature. The feature lineup will remain the same as posted tonight.”

The rainy weather was the main concern all week as early forecasts showed rain in the area on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The TOMS’ second show of the weekend at Kennedale Speedway Park scheduled for Saturday evening, in Kennedale, was cancelled early Friday and announced in a Facebook post on the track’s page.

“We want to give the fans and the racers a great experience for the TOMS race and the weather is just not going to allow for that,” the post reads. “We have looked at the forecast and it’s just not getting any better for tomorrow (Saturday) night’s race. With the rain, 15-20 mph winds and upper 40 temps at race time. So, we have decided to cancel the race for April 5th, however, we know the racers and fans want to see the TOMS race, so we will look at our schedule and try to find a date that works for KSP and the TOMS for a makeup date.”

The 2024 TOMS race at Kennedale Speedway Park was also rained out.

Friday’s action at HOT Speedway featured 18 cars and three heat races.

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) moved up two spots from his third starting position to pick up the opening heat race win. Hartline led all eight laps of the heat race according to My Race Pass timing.

Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas) and Eric Tomlinson (Robinson, Texas) rounded out the top three finishers of the first heat race.

Steven Ashcraft, (Forney, Texas) was victorious in the second heat after he moved up one spot from his second starting position. Ashcraft led all eight laps of the second heat race according to My Race Pass timing.

Wesley Veal (Princeton, Texas) moved up three spots to finish second, while Troy Taylor (Midlothian, Texas) moved up one spot to finish third.

The third and final heat race was won by Jack Sartain (Royse City, Texas). Sartain started on the pole and led all eight laps.

Ryan Veal (Princeton, Texas) moved up one spot to finish second and Chase Hatton (De Berry, Texas) advanced two spots to round out the top three.

Clement wins TOMS opener at SOS; Hatton scores first career TOMS win on night two

The Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) kicked off its 2025 season with two nights of racing Friday and Saturday night, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore.

Mitchell Clement (Bonham, Texas) moved his No. 32 car up seven spots from his eighth starting position to claim the win on the opening night.

The 25-lap feature race had one caution as Steven Ashcraft (Forney, Texas) came to a stop entering turn three on lap 10.

Shane Hartline (Ivanhoe, Texas) was the race leader at the time of caution and went on to lead an additional four laps as Clement worked his way up to the second position with 11 laps remaining.

Clement passed Hartline for the lead with seven laps remaining as the two would battle for the lead for an additional two laps.

Clement went on to lead the remaining laps and won over second place finisher Hartline by 1.601 seconds, according to My Race Pass timing.

“The car has been good all night and we just made some minimum changes there for the feature,” Clement said standing in victory lane after the race. “I was able to lean on that cushion a little bit, and it felt good up there.”

“The track definitely had some character to it,” Clement said. “I think it may take some time for him to get it worked after putting new dirt on it three days before we race on it. It is what it is. We all got to race on it.”

Jason Ingalls (Longview, Texas), Chris Henigan (Marshall, Texas) and Bo Day (Greenville, Texas) rounded out the top five finishers

Earlier in the night the TOMS raced two B-Mains, which were won by Jason Sartain (Royce City, Texas) and William Gould (Celera, Oklahoma).

Hatton wins night two at SOS

Night Two at Southern Oklahoma Speedway saw Chase Hatton win the A-Feature race.

For Hatton, it was his first TOMS win with the series.

The field started the race three wide as Hatton was in the middle between Michael Ables and Chris Henigan.

Hennigan led the first lap and a half before Shawn Johnson (Marlow, Oklahoma) spun in the middle of turn three and four bringing out the caution.

On the restart, Henigan took the lead and set sail and lead the next 15 laps. However, as the field got strung out and lap traffic became a factor, Hatton decided to take the outside groove and Henigan stuck to the bottom as they passed a lap car with 13 laps remaining.

Hatton used the momentum from the high line and was able to use a lap car to put distance between himself and Hennigan.

Hatton went on to lead the remaining 13 laps en route to score his first career TOMS win and first in win 2025. The margin of victory was 4.419 seconds, according to My Race Pass timing.

“After last night’s mishap, we definitely had to work on the left rear of this thing and right front pretty hard all day today,” Hatton said after the race. “We came out in the heat race, and we were alright. We weren’t really good. The slick track kind of caught us off guard.

“We made some changes,” he said. “We didn’t get too aggressive with it. Whenever Henigan got out front and the 32 got by me, I was like, ‘Oh man. I’m running third tonight guys.’ We had that caution and then I was able go to the outside of the 32. Lap traffic really played a favor in tonight.”

Henigan finished behind Hatton in second, while Hartline finished third; Dean Abbey was fourth and Ingalls rounded out the top five in fifth.

Broken rear end leads to short night 1 for Wojtek; Night 2 yields better results

Heading into Friday’s Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Blackwell, Texas native Fred “Fast Freddy” Wojtek was hoping to put all the bad luck from the 2024 season behind him.

However, just a few laps into hot laps, the crew and others were having déjà vu as Wojtek was forced to pull his 44F car to the infield and ended up getting pushed back to the pit area by the tow truck.

The crew went to work quickly to diagnose the issue and found an issue with the rear end of the car.

“Long story short, we were low on oil and burned up the rear end of the car,” Wojtek said. “I think it might have had a quart of oil in it. That put an end to our night.”

With his night cut short, a decision was made to put in the work and replace it with a rear end from Wojtek’s spare car at his shop.

“Gerrit (Haynes) got here about 10:30 this morning with it and we pulled this one (broken rear end) out of it last night. And we put the replacement in this morning,” he said. “We got everything set where we needed it. We went out in hot laps and everything was good.”

Wojtek started first in the first heat race for the TOMS and after leading the opening two laps, he went off the edge of turn three and dropped back to seventh place.

“I know he (track owner John Webb) flattened it up over there, and I just wasn’t expecting it to hold the car like it used to,” Wojtek said. “My fault. I made a mistake. I went to the back; I think I passed one car there towards the end. It kind of messed our night up, and we should’ve been starting closer in the feature.”

Wojtek ended up finishing sixth in his heat race, but the good news is Wojtek was second quickest in his heat race with a best lap of 18.944 (lap six) and had an average lap time of 19.197. Mitchell Clement, who won the heat race, recorded a best lap time of 18.882 and an average lap time of 19.074, according to My Race Pass timing.

Wojtek started the feature race on the inside of the seventh row in 19^th as the field started the feature three abreast.

Wojtek passed five cars in the feature race and ended up with a 14^th place finish.

“We thought the track was going to slick off more than it did,” Wojtek said of his feature race. “It rubbered up towards the end of the race. We tightened the car up a little too much and I was fighting tight conditions all night.

“I wish we could’ve done better,” he said. “Our luck is just not with us lately. We are just going to keep plugging away and hopefully we will do better at the next one.”

With two races in the books, Wojtek will now turn his attention to another two-race weekend on April 4 and 5, at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, in Waco and Kennedale Speedway Park, in Kennedale.

Wojtek finished eighth in the last TOMS race he raced at Heart O’ Texas on June 14, 2024. That same night he won his heat race after starting on the pole.

The last trip to Kennedale Speedway Park came on Aug. 16, 2023, where Wojtek finished 22 in the feature and third in the heat race.

The previous trip on April 8, netted better results with a fourth-place feature finish. The same night Wojtek won his heat race after starting in second.

Wojtek set to compete in TOMS opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

The 2025 Touring Outlaw Modified Series (TOMS) season will kick-off at 7 p.m. today March 21 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, in Ardmore Oklahoma.

Tonight’s race will be night the first of two separate races this weekend at SOS. Both nights will have a hefty $1,500 to win purse and will pay $240 to start.

General admission to the track will be $20 and kids 6-12, military, and seniors will be $15. Pit passes will be $35.

For Blackwell native Fred “Fast Freddy” Wojtek the 2025 season opener will be a fresh start for him as he experienced a series of bad luck during the summer months of 2024.

Despite the bad luck, Wojtek finished eighth in the points in his second year with the series. He closed out the 2024 season with a fifth-place finish on the second night of the TOMS Nationals held Oct. 25 and 26, at Grayson County Speedway.

Wojtek will look to put 2024 behind him as he starts his third season as he will be on a different chassis in 2025.

“We decided to go with our GRT,” Wojtek said. “That car has been a proven winner for us, and it’s a car that I’m real comfortable with. We had a body put on it and made it more of an outlaw car. We did some updates on the front end and made the body where it’s more of an outlaw style body.”

“We raced it at Grayson (during TOMS Nationals) and it was still pretty much set up IMCA,” Wojtek continued. “So, we updated some things on it, and we are going to go that route until we can get the MB (chassis) sold. We might try to buy something new or maybe not quite as old as what we have been running.”

For Wojtek, the GRT chassis has been a good car for him with success at the IMCA level.

“We have won a couple IMCA championships with the GRT,” he said. “Like I said, I’m real comfortable with the GRT and I know it really well. The GRT has been freshened up. Me and my dad tore it down to bare frame and then we put all new parts on it a couple years ago. So, everything that’s on it maybe has about six or seven nights on it with all the new parts on it.”

The 2025 season will have some different tracks on the schedule for Wojtek and the TOMS compared to the 2024 season with RPM, Rocket Raceway Park, Boothill Speedway and Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

Wojtek said he has experience at three of the four tracks with Boothill Speedway being the only one he has not raced at.

“I went to Ark-La-Tex a long time ago when I first started racing in 2006,” Wojtek said. “They had a $5000 to win stockcar race. I ran the heat race and got in a wreck and bent the frame and ended up loading up and going home. I think I’ve made about 15 laps on that track counting hot laps.

“We ran RPM in 2023 when they had a two-night show there,” Wojtek said. “The first night a piece of mud or something hit my kill switch, and we slipped back towards the back and then came back and got around 12^th. The second night the track had some character to it. I think I ended up finishing second that night. So, I like RPM. It seems to fit my style well.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s races at SOS, SOS has been a solid track for Wojtek in the past with an average finish of 8.8 with two top 5’s and four top 10’s.

Wojtek’s best finish at SOS in 2024 came on April 6 with a third-place finish in the feature race. On May 4, he finished eighth in the feature and on the final trip to SOS with the TOMS on July 6, he did not start the feature race after having issues in the heat race.

“I really like SOS. I’ve never won there, but I’ve always wanted to win at that track,” he said. “I like Oklahoma. It’s a little bit bigger than what we normally run on and I’m ready to win one there. Hopefully, this weekend we can get us a win there.”
